Teams representing the United States and Mexico will face off this weekend in a pair of arena soccer games as both squads prepare to send teams to the Pan American Minifootball Championships June 7-12 in Guatemala.

The two teams first will face off Friday night at the home of the Ontario Fury, Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. That game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. and is presented by Camden McKay Real Estate. Saturday night, the teams will have a rematch at Stockton Arena at 6 p.m., in a game being presented by Inland Empire Sports and Entertainment.

“We are looking at these games as important tune ups for our team, not only for the tournament in Guatemala, but for the Arena Soccer World Cup coming to Mexico this October,” said Bernie Lilavois, the general manager of the United States team. “We need to have our team working together as we expect fierce competition in Guatemala to qualify for a return to the Minifootball World Cup next year in Australia.”

For Lilavois, the weekend also presents a pair of returns of sorts, as he will lead the teams from behind the bench as the head coach of the United States. But, for the Ontario Fury President and General Manager, it will be a return to the home of his first coaching triumph, Stockton. Lilavois led the Stockton Cougars to the first Professional Arena Soccer League championship following the 2008-09 season.

“It is great that we have the opportunity to bring arena soccer back to Stockton for this international friendly,” Lilavois said. “We hope to see the game welcomed back to Stockton Arena and that arena soccer can find a place in this market once again.”

Tickets for both games can still be purchased at the respective arena box offices.
