Local players selected from open tryouts to join the team

ONTARIO, CALIFORNIA (November 27, 2019)- The Ontario Fury, presented by Ford, have added three new players to the roster for the upcoming 2019-20 Major Arena Soccer League Season. All three will be playing their first season of professional arena soccer. Per team and league policies, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Defender and local Anaheim, California native Christian Alvarado heads up the new additions. Alvarado attended Anaheim High School where he was named a two-time All-Orange League Selection. He also played for the Los Angeles Galaxy Youth Academy, where he was the 2008 Adidas ESP All-Star and Golden Boot winner. Alvarado went on to Loyola Marymount University, helping them win their only two WCC Championships in School History.

“Christian is a strong and powerful player.” Fury Head Coach Jimmy Nordberg said. “He is a true student of the game and learning everyday. Look to see him win his 1 versus 1 duels.”

Defender Edson Cardona from San Jose, California is the second player added to the Fury roster. Cardona recently played overseas for SV Rottenman (Austria Landesliga) and Zejtun Corinthians FC (Malta First Division). He attended Santa Clara University where he was named to the 2013 WCC All-Freshman Team.

“Edson is a very skillful and soccer savvy player,” Nordberg said. ”He will help solidify our back line and add another dimension to our attack.”

Midfielder and another local product from Northridge, California, Jesus Pacheco, rounds out the list of newly signed players. Pacheco who is only 19 years of age, most recently played for Real So Cal Academy, where he was trained and coached by former U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team and current Fury Forward Jermaine Jones. The student turned teammate will be the youngest member of the Fury this season.

“Jesus is a young, crafty, creative player that is very energetic on the field,” added Nordberg. “We are very excited about the presence he will bring to our attack.”
