JIMMY NORDBERG TO STEP BEHIND BENCH AS NEW ONTARIO FURY COACH

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, has named Jimmy Nordberg as the head coach of the team for the 2017-18 season.

Nordberg, an assistant with the Fury last season, takes over for Fury President Bernie Lilavois, who stepped down as head coach at the end of last season to focus more on expanding the Fury’s brand in the Inland Empire.

Nordberg is a 1997 graduate of Rancho Cucamonga High School, and played collegiately at Azusa Pacific University and then Cal State San Bernardino. After earning all-conference and all-Far West honors in college, he turned to coaching. He has held positions that have included director of coaching for clubs to an assistant coach at UC Riverside.

He holds an “A” License for coaching from the US Soccer Federation. He currently serves as the Director of FC Golden State Academy, as well as the head trainer of the CB3 Academy at the Upland Sports Arena.

“Jimmy brings a great background in coaching soccer to the Ontario Fury,” said Lilavois. “He has been able to bring some of the lessons he’s learned training with European coaches which will give our team a new perspective on the field and in training.”

Nordberg will be assisted by fellow former assistant coach Thales Peterson and goaltending coach Gustavo. Peterson is the coaching director for FC Golden State.

Returning members of the Fury squad will be announced Wednesday, with new additions officially announced after they have been approved by the Major Arena Soccer League.

The Fury will open their 2017-18 home schedule at 3 p.m. Sunday with a preseason matchup against the San Diego Sockers. Ontario will then play its first regular season game a week later, taking on their Pacific Division rivals, the Turlock Express at 3 p.m. Nov. 5.
