FURY HEAD SOUTH FOR I-15 RIVALRY GAME

by Bill Norris

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, will hit the mid-point of their five-game road trip Sunday as they take on their Pacific Division rivals, the San Diego Sockers.

The game, which can be seen live on MASL.tv, will kick off at 5 p.m. at Valley View Casino Center.

Ontario heads south with a 2-1 record on the young Major Arena Soccer League season, having split the first two games of this road trip with a win in Syracuse and loss in Harrisburg last weekend. After the back-to-back games in the east, Ontario came home and has had a week of training leading up to this Pacific Division matchup.

The Fury are 1-12 lifetime against the Sockers in the regular season, with that one win coming at Valley View Casino Center. Besides a preseason game in October, the last time the two teams met was in the Ron Newman Cup playoffs, a series the Sockers won in the tiebreaking mini-game at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Ontario is led on offense by forward Leonardo de Oliveira, who has four goals and seven assists in the Fury’s three games. He is tied for the team lead in goals with three players, defenders Thiago Goncalves, Maicon de Abreu and Douglas Lima.

San Diego is once again led by their franchise’s all-time leading scorer, Kraig Chiles, who enters this week’s action second in the MASL with nine goals (along with two assists). The Sockers also have a solid goalkeeping corps, with Chris Toth and Boris Pardo, botha of whom have experience playing internationally representing the United States.

After Sunday’s game, the Fury will have Thanksgiving week off before concluding their road trip with another flight back east. On Dec. 1, Ontario will take on the defending Ron Newman Cup winners, the Baltimore Blast. The following day, the Fury will make a return trip to Harrisburg to take on the Heat. All MASL games can be seen live on MASL.tv.
