The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, were anxious not to have a repeat of last week’s fourth quarter collapse against El Paso, scored six times in the fourth quarter to defeat the Rio Grande Valley Barracudas 9-2 Sunday afternoon at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Eight different Fury players scored Sunday, as they only led 3-1 after 45 minutes of action. But Ontario responded to coach Jimmy Nordberg’s challenge after last game to keep going forward and not sit back on its lead.

Adrien Perez scored the first of his two goals in the fourth quarter, deflecting a defensive clearing pass into the net to give Ontario a 4-1 lead. After the Barracudas made it 4-2, scoring just after a penalty expired, the Fury responded on a power play themselves. It only took two seconds of time on the power play as Leonardo de Oliveira shot a pass from Maicon de Abreu past goaltender Fidel Garcia for a 5-2 lead.

Ontario scored twice more before Rio Grande Valley employed the sixth attacker, with the Fury scoring twice into the vacated net – the final time coming shorthanded, as Israel Sesay scored the final goal with 15 seconds remaining.

Goaltender Jose Miranda made 10 saves in the victory for the Fury, who will take on the Turlock Express at 7 p.m. Dec. 27 at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
