COYOTES PUSH PAST FURY IN FINAL MINUTES
The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, gave up a goal with 1:10 remaining to fall to the El Paso Coyotes 7-6 at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
The Coyotes trailed by one going into the final quarter, but they scored four times in the final 15 minutes, with the final goal coming with an extra attacker on the field after a delayed penalty was being called against the Fury. El Paso held the ball for more than a minute with the delayed penalty, with Louis Herrera setting up Omar Tapia for the goal.
Ontario led most of the way, taking a 2-0 lead at halftime on goals by Maicon de Abreu and Adrien Perez. But the story was El Paso goaltender Jesus Molina, as the Fury peppered 21 shots toward the Coyotes’ goal. In all, the Fury fired 26 shots on El Paso’s goal, with Molina stopping 20 of them, earning the game’s first star.
El Paso broke the shutout 4:34 into the second half, as Jorge Rios hammered home a pass from Hugo Puentes. But the Fury answered 18 seconds later, as Douglas Lima poked a pass off the boards from Chico Francisco Cordeiro past Molina.
The teams traded goals like that until El Paso tied it at 5 with 9:49 to go in the game. But Ontario re-took the lead back with 5:01 to go as Juan Carlos Gonzalez pressured the ball along the boards and touched the ball to De Abreu, who shot it into the net vacated by Molina, who was expecting a pass from his defender.
But El Paso got the final two goals, with the first coming just 38 seconds after the Fury took the lead. Molina sent a long ball down field that was put home by Alacar Gonzalez. It was Molina’s second assist of the game.
