Brazilian Second Half Surge Sinks Usa
A third quarter run of three unanswered goals helped Brazil turn a one-goal halftime lead into a four-goal advantage that helped the Brazilian team defeat the United States 8-5 in the third Major Arena Soccer League International Challenge, presented by Mark Christopher Chevrolet.
The game, hosted by the Ontario Fury at Citizens Business Bank Arena, featured players from across the MASL representing their home countries. Previous challenge games have featured the United States and Mexico, with this game being the first time the two sides had met in friendly action.
The Ontario Fury’s Tiguinho had a pair of goals for the Brazilians, as did Lucio Gonzaga from the Fury. Ontario’s Andy Reyes led the United States with a pair of first half goals. Ontario players Tino Nunez (US) and Mauricio Salles (Brazil) also contributed goals for their teams. Fury goaltender Sanaldo picked up the win for Brazil.
San Diego’s Kraig Chiles, the American captain, and Matt Clare also scored for the United States. Cedar Rapids Rampage player/coach Hewerton Moreria, San Diego’s Luan Sales Oliveira and Fury Reserve player Gustavo Campos also scored for Brazil.
The final MASL International Challenge game will take place Sept. 24 in Hermisillo, Mexico, the home of the defending Western Conference Champion Soles de Sonora between the United States and Mexico. Both teams have won a game against the other this summer.
The MASL regular season will begin in late October. Season ticket packages for the Ontario Fury’s home games are on sale now through the Fury’s offices at 909-457-0252.
