The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, have signed free agent defender Thiago Goncalves for the 2016-17 Major Arena Soccer League season.

Goncalves appeared in 16 games last season for Detroit Waza Flo, scoring 10 goals and adding five assists. Two of his goals came on the power play, and he was chosen to the MASL All-Rookie Team as a defender.

"We are lucky to have a defender of Thiago’s ability become available to sign with the Fury,” said Ontario president and coach Bernie Lilavois. “We expect him to add some punch and stabilize our defense.”

Gonzcalves became available after the Waza Flo announced it would take the season off to restructure its operations to return in the 2017-18 season.

Ontario will open the 2016-17 regular season beginning at home at 3:05 p.m. Oct. 30 against Atletico Baja.
