Health's A Kick!

Health’s a Kick! is a 45 minute school assembly program designed to educate and entertain students while delivering a powerful message on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Ontario Fury Professional Players, Staff, and Coaches will deliver a message that highlights topics like proper nutrition, the need to exercise, the dangers of drug, alcohol and tobacco use, and the importance of getting an education. The program is designed for grades K-6. Intermediate school assemblies are designed to be more interactive for enhanced participation.

Fury personnel will review the four main points of the program:

1. Proper Nutrition

2. Exercise

3. Avoiding Drugs/Alcohol/Tobacco Use

4. Getting An Education

Students will then be given “homework” (a one page flyer asking questions related to the assembly). They will also be informed that they will be given a voucher good for one complimentary ticket to attend a 2019-20 Ontario Fury home game if they return their “homework”! Fury personnel will then thank students, staff, and school for having them visit and say goodbye, reminding everyone that HEALTH’S A KICK!

Soccer Demonstration: This part of the program will involve a fun and interactive soccer skills demonstration. Students and/or school staff will be used whenever possible. This section offers an entertaining element to the assembly with students and school staff interacting with the Ontario Fury Players! Points related to the messages delivered earlier will be reinforced throughout this section of the program.

Testimonials

“During the 2014 – 2015 school year, the Ontario-Montclair School District was proud to partner with the Ontario Fury Indoor Professional Soccer team by promoting the Health’s A Kick! assemblies in 26 of our schools. The players presented assemblies at both elementary sites and middle school sites. The HAK! format is to promote healthy living by eating correctly, exercising regularly, doing your best in school, and avoiding drugs and alcohol. The players tell students about good foods to eat that provide benefits to your body. As professional athletes, the Fury players had an immediate impact on the lives of our students. The players encourage healthy living by exercising daily. The players share with students about their daily workout routines. During the hour assembly, the players relate to students by sharing their favorite subject in school and the importance of paying attention. At the end of the assembly, the players call students up to the stage to do some simple soccer drills. The players usually attempt to head the ball 20 times in a row, teasing the students that if they succeed, the students would not have homework for the rest of the week! Thankfully, one of the players usually makes an error at number 19. The Health’s A Kick! program provided many students the opportunity to connect firsthand with a professional athlete. The Fury players are role models, and their message is extremely important to the students of today.”

-Wayne Bradley, Ontario-Montclair School District

“The Fury’s Health’s A Kick! program brought the importance of nutrition, exercise, education, and a drug free mission together in a fun and entertaining way that all students could relate to. The soccer demonstration had the kids on their feet to catch a better view! All year, my students asked to play soccer. I have shared the program with other teachers and schools because I believe it is valuable for all kids to have such a positive influence from the Fury!”

-Jennifer Smith, Elementary School Teacher
